With spring finally here and two willing and able models, we unveil a child’s vest. Easy to knit and customize, it is an elegant and casual option for the cool spring and summer evenings. I knitted these (for a 2 and a 4 year old) with a lace alpaca yarn along a DK cotton thread.
We are full believers that the appreciation of fine things must be learned from an early age. Every newborn should be welcomed into the world in something fine, hand-crafted, and unique.
Earlier this fall Faberie undertook a sizable commission for a stroller blanket for a little girl. The patron did not want to adhere to the typical gender-specific standards requesting an ocean-blue color. Instead, we chose to highlight the gender with the pattern choosing a flowing leaf motif.
Completing the creative process was the selection of yarn. We sourced a cotton yarn spun with a silver thread from a small-batch yarn maker in Turkey. The yarn was a pleasure to work with and the blanket turned out sturdy yet soft.
Another weekend, another knitting project. First, an adorable pom-pom beanie not unlike our other offering from this year’s Bebe collection. This beaning is a little more structured and has beautiful texture.
And what better to compliment a hat than a scarflet. A scarflet is a little scarf for little necks designed to provide maximum coverage without weighing down the wee wearer. Accented with fun tassels, the scarflet doesn’t come apart and is perfect for those breezy evenings or active hours on the playground. Each can be knitted in a lazy evening and both are made of 100% Italian merino wool.
Knitting for anyone is a labor of love. Little pieces to warm and comfort babies bring extraordinary pleasure to the maker and comfort to the wee wearer. Hand-knit kids’ clothes are different; they feel refined, classy, luxurious. We have time and again knit marvelous pieces for our own children and are choosing to extend the pleasure of dressing a child in one-of-a-kind, hand-made pieces to everyone else. Here are two new designs that are ready. The first is a unisex knit-cap knitted with ultra-soft Italian merino wool with a wee-sized pom pom. Perfectly soft for a little girl and yet masculine for a little boy. The second piece is a grey, wool cardigan with white trimming for a little girl. Pearly grey buttons complete the sophisticated yet delicate look.
